The Combined Cycle links an open gas turbine cycle with a steam cycle to achieve efficiency.
The main fuel used is natural gas.
The gas is supplied from Bahía de Bizkaia Gas at a pressure of 35 barg.
The thermal energy is obtained by combustion of the natural gas with compressed air in the combustion chamber of the turbine.
GAS TURBINE
General Electric MODEL MS 90 01 FA
Minimum gas pressure: 35 barg.
COMBUSTION CHAMBER TEMPERATURE: 1300ºC
THREE STAGE GAS TURBINE 3,000 r.p.m.
AIR COMPRESSOR
GAS SUPPLY. It is preheated before being injected into the turbine to enhance performance.
AIR FILTER AND SILENCERS
LOW NOx EMISSION BURNERS
ELECTRIC GENERATOR connected to the gas turbine by a rigid coupling.
The work of the turbine activates its respective alternator, thus achieving electric energy.
RECOVERY BOILER
Gas temperature: 609ºC
The combustion gases pass to the recovery boiler where their energy is used to heat water and obtain steam to drive the steam turbine.
Steam is produced at three pressure levels: high, medium and low pressure.
HIGH PRESSURE
127 barg
565ºC
MEDIUM PRESSURE
26 barg
568ºC
LOW PRESSURE
7 barg
270ºC
The resulting low temperature gases do not contain sulphur and are sent to the chimney.
The height of the chimney facilitates the dispersion of the gases.
There are ducts for each of the gas turbines.
Emissions are systematically controlled by a CO and NOx emissions monitoring system.
STEAM TURBINE
The high-temperature steam generated in the recovery boilers is fed to the steam turbine.
The steam turbine has 3 bodies: high pressure body, medium pressure body and low pressure body.
LOW PRESSURE BODY
MEDIUM PRESSURE BODY
HIGH PRESSURE BODY
Steam is expanded in the turbine which drives the coupled generator to produce electric energy.
GENERATOR
Steam is expanded in the turbine which drives the coupled generator to produce electric energy.
CONDENSER
The condenser is located under the steam turbine.
SEAWATER PUMP
The condenser is cooled by seawater. Two water pumps supply the cooling system.
COOLING SYSTEM. Circuit length: 840 metres.
INTAKE POINT. Connected by an underground concrete pipe installation.
UNDERWATER OUTFALL. Depth: 20 metres.
The water is returned to the sea. As it passes through BBG, some of the water is used in the vaporisers to bring the LNG to a gaseous state. This reduces the environmental impact.
